Nick Rekieta's chat is always pestering me for "ass Wednesday" photos. It's not Wednesday, but as I was editing my next premiere video (for Locals subs only! Sign up now!) I laughed out loud at this still shot and figured I would save it for them next time they complain that I never participate. What am I doing? The usual tasks of all housewives...trying to stay on top of things while working, shuffling kids around, feeding my family, and trying to stay sane.
But sometimes it gets really overwhelming, doesn't it? Do you ever feel like you don't know where to start? Dishes have piled up in the sink and laundry is climbing up the wall, and everywhere you look there's just another pile of stuff! This happens. The very first thing to do is to not beat yourself up. Whatever caused it, it happens to everyone and you can make it better.
One of my favorite memories of being little was my Gramma Vicky coming to stay with us. Whenever she did she would come into my room and start organizing and cleaning. She would "tsk tsk" a few times and say sweetly, "Oh, Megan!" when she would uncover the chaos in my drawers. But she never scolded me. She just quietly started fixing it and giving me helpful tips about how to keep things in better shape. She would enlist my help and tell me what to do and where to put things and we would spend an hour or two together laughing and cleaning and it would soon be looking like a different room.
I miss her so much. I've never been good at cleaning alone. I have never been able to stay on top of my house. But I remember the feeling of a clean room that someone else cleaned for me. It is sheer bliss. It is a fabulous gift. And that's the gift I want to give you, except I can't actually do the cleaning for you...but I can walk with you and be there with you doing it together.
Crisis Cleaning is a system of cleaning invented by Marla Cilley, The Flylady. Her book "Sink Reflections" is one of the greatest books I've ever read. I highly recommend it.
The video I'm working on for my Locals subscribers that I hope to get up later today is me walking you through how to crisis clean, room by room, chore by chore. I'm going to do it with you! If you spend that time with me with your headphones on, we will get your house looking amazing in a short time. It will be fun, not a drag. We will have music and laughs, and you will be amazed at how good you feel after just a few small things get done. All you need is some earbuds and a Locals membership to my channel (use promo code PANTS for a free month when you sign up for a year)
Sign up now! I want you to have some peace about your house this holiday season.
What is Crisis Cleaning and how long will it take?
Cilley does 15-minute sessions at a time but I've cut it down to 10. I like the faster pace of 10 minute segments between tasks. Here's a sample of what's coming in the video:
